ABOUT US

Who We Are

Detester Magazine, founded in 2019, is a youth-led nonprofit platform dedicated to amplifying people of color youth activism and socio-political issues. We truly believe that art and writing are powerful mediums for change. We want to advocate issues that affect people of color communities around the globe, whether it concerns politics, society, culture, mental health, environment, and etc. We aim to push past the endless single stories to deliver a picture that expresses distilled human emotions and diverse perspectives. *The name Detester Magazine reflects our goal to combat the hate and bigotry that stem from ignorance.

Our Mission

Our mission is to promote racial solidarity among youth of color through creative expression and intersectional advocacy.

Our Vision

Detester Magazine envisions a world where communities can celebrate each other's similarities and appreciate differences through diverse representation and racial equity.

Our Goals

1
Amplify socio-political issues that affect people of color communities. We work to bring forward a diverse and inclusive representation of POC communities and build allyship as we educate each other on the unique experiences of each community.
2
Empower youth of color to raise their voices to combat social injustices. We strive to uplift the voices of marginalized communities and people of color that are often overlooked or underrepresented in our societies to diversify our perspectives and to build a more inclusive and equitable world.
3
Provide channels of action for youth of color to become more proactive in social activism. We create and share resources to inspire our and future generations to become changemakers in their communities and to bring together the power of grassroots, student activism.

Why Did I Become a Detester?

Because…
I think it is brave to take action.
I think it is youthful to have a strong belief.
I think it is courageous to explore topics typically tip-toed around...
